PENETRATING SEALER

When it comes to protecting surfaces like concrete, stone, or masonry, a reliable sealer is essential. Evolving Elements Water-based penetrating sealer has gained significant popularity due to its effectiveness, ease of application, and environmentally friendly nature.

A water-based penetrating sealer is a protective coating that is specifically designed to penetrate porous surfaces, forming a durable barrier that repels water, stains, and other contaminants. Unlike topical sealers that sit on the surface, water-based penetrating sealers penetrate deep into the material, creating a long-lasting and reliable shield without altering the appearance or compromising the breathability of the substrate.

Advantages of Water-Based Penetrating Sealer

  1. Deep Penetration and Lasting Protection: Water-based penetrating sealers are formulated to penetrate deep into the pores of the surface when they are applied. This deep penetration ensures comprehensive protection from within, creating a robust barrier against moisture, stains, oil, and other damaging substances. By sealing the substrate from the inside out, water-based sealers provide long-lasting protection against the elements, ensuring the longevity and durability of the material.
  1. Retain Natural Appearance: One of the primary advantages of water-based penetrating sealers is their ability to preserve the natural appearance of the surface. Since the sealer penetrates the material rather than forming a film on top, it does not alter the color, texture, or sheen of the substrate. This makes water-based sealers an excellent choice for maintaining the aesthetic appeal of surfaces like concrete, natural stone, brick, and pavers.
  1. Breath-ability: Unlike some sealers that trap moisture within the substrate, water-based penetrating sealers allow the material to breathe. This is crucial for surfaces like concrete, as it allows moisture vapor to escape, preventing the buildup of pressure that can lead to cracks, spalling, or efflorescence. The breath ability of water-based sealers also helps to maintain the structural integrity of the material and reduce the risk of freeze-thaw damage.
  1. Ease of Application: Water-based penetrating sealers are typically easy to apply, making them a convenient choice for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals. They are available in ready-to-use formulations, eliminating the need for mixing or dilution. Additionally, water-based sealers have low VOC (volatile organic compound) content, resulting in reduced odor and making them safer to use in enclosed or poorly ventilated areas.
  1. Environmentally Friendly: Water-based penetrating sealers are considered environmentally friendly compared to solvent-based alternatives. They have lower VOC emissions, which means they release fewer harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. Moreover, water-based sealers are non-toxic, non-flammable, and can be easily cleaned up with water, reducing the impact on both human health and the environment.

Water-based penetrating sealers offer numerous advantages when it comes to protecting porous surfaces. Their ability to penetrate deeply, retain the natural appearance of the material, and provide long-lasting protection makes them an excellent choice for a wide range of applications. The breath-ability and ease of application of water-based sealers further contribute to their appeal, while their environmentally friendly nature makes them a responsible choice for those concerned about sustainability.

Application:

  • Always test a small area first to ensure satisfactory results, and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for coverage.
  • Penetrating Sealer should be applied using a pump sprayer, lambswool applicator or back pack sprayer.
  • Mix 1 part of solution to 3 parts water.
  • Apply a saturation coat and allow to soak. If surface is drying within 5 minutes, apply more sealer to keep surface wet for up to 5 minutes. Once dried it will not accept another coat.
  • Wipe excess sealer away with roller or dry cotton, paper or microfibre towels.
  • DO NOT ALLOW EXCESS PRODUCT TO DRY ON THE SURFACE AS IT WILL GO WHITE.
  • Do not walk on for a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Keep dry for a minimum of 12 hours.
  • If temperatures are lower or humidity higher than 70% then these times may be longer.
  • Achieves a full cure in a minimum of 24 hours.
